Within close driving
distance from Barbourville is the Dr. Thomas Walker State Park
Historical Site, a recreational park with a replica of the cabin
built by the Walker party during their exploration in the spring
of 1750. A few miles south of town near historic Flat Lick
is Daniel Boone Memorial Park, the only point at which three
major ancient and pioneer trails cross: the Warrior's
Path, the Wilderness Road, and the Daniel Boone Trace.

Only a couple of
miles north of Barbourville is the Kentucky Communities Craft
Village, a division of the Kentucky Communities Economic
Opportunity Council, a community action agency. Along a
gently rising hillside, three authentic log cabins filled with
traditional mountain crafts give those interested in local
crafts the feeling that they are buying directly from a mountain
homestead. And in essence that is true: locally
produced arts and crafts are placed on sale by their creators.
Often the customer may purchase an item directly from the
artist. The Craft Village hosts music, dance and folklife
festivals from time to time.
